Today is the final day of black history month, and I’m still rocking my Tignon✊🏾 For the culture baby!!!
I’m so proud to be a Black Women that I can’t only acknowledge, appreciate and honor that blackness 28/9 days a year. I’m the definition of 365 BLACK and I don’t plan to change. The only difference for me during BHM is my tignon.
What is a Tignon? You ask.
Its simply a fancy name for a head wrap. At one point in history men, white men, would openly have black mistresses. The wives were livid. I mean what did these jiggaboo’s have that they didn’t. They thought it was hair, so they made a law that we had to cover it. Apparently we were mesmerizing them with our hair! Our coils and curls were bewitching their men, Ha! The thought process is laughable.
What is it about the Black woman?
EVERYTHING!
Black women are the mother of all humanity. We carry the genes that can create every variable of human. Think about it. ALL began with US! We carry the Eve gene.
We are regal in all ways. We sit, speak, move and think like Queens. And baby when we walk, Tuh, shashay away girl! Our walk is so fierce Maya Angelou mentioned it in Phenomenal Woman and drag queens have been trying to copy it for years. Hell they highjacked the entire black woman persona because when they couldn’t fit it, one group of people showed them the blueprint of being you unapologetically, the black woman.
We rock our hair in the most fabulous creative styles. Braids, locs, bump and curls, a fro or weave, we SLAY! The world on our shoulders and against us, having to grind and be our own protectors yet we still find time to be fine!
We have golden skin, full lips and full hips. We have hearts so filled with love, that we stay loyal to our men even when they don’t deserve it. Cover our kids so much that sometimes they never wanna grow up. Connect with our friends so well that we can have a full conversation with our eyes or by simply saying “Girl”. Them conversations be the best too!
But the best thing we have is MAGIC! That Black Girl Magic that makes everything we touch BETTER! You got corn meal and won’t give us bread, jiffy. You want give us meat just the scraps, dirty rice. Won’t let us glamorize ourselves with elaborate hairstyles, watch us work a headscarf!
I’ve gotten so many compliments this month on my head wraps and to think this is my “nana devil” to the people that tried to minimize our magic to hair!
We are love, strength, glamour, power, beauty, care, courage, determination, compassion. We are relentless, focused, feisty, confident, passionate, fearless, unstoppable. We are nurturing and soft yet still a commanding presence.
And they tried to minimize it to hair!!
It’s our ESSENCE!
We are sexy and desirable beyond esthetic. It’s something on the inside of a black woman that is coveted by all. They try to capture it by buying big butts, lip fillers, tans, long nails and “getting their hair did” or even fucking black men but they can’t.
Black Girl Magic is my birthright!
Often imitated, never duplicated.
Big Ups to the Black Woman✊🏾
